Big Issues - Homelessness

The homelessness problem in the UK has increased dramatically over the last 10 years. Many young people are affected by homelessness. Making important life changing decisions like when to leave home can be difficult particularly if relationships within the family are hard. Some young people feel that they are forced to leave home and go against their will. You are homeless if:

  • You live with no kind of shelter e.g. on the streets
  • You have shelter, but nowhere to call home
  • You are living on a friend's or relative's floor
  • Or you are living in a hostel

Shelter takes the view that anyone who does not have decent, secure and affordable housing is homeless. It claims that homelessness figures are at an all time high and that the numbers of families living in bed and breakfast accommodation has doubled in the past 3 years. According to Shelter, once people are accepted as homeless by their local authority they are likely to be placed in temporary accommodation. Many councils use B&Bs as a last resort and prefer local authority run hostels and women's refuges, privately leased dwellings, short-life property and mobile homes. A Christian View of Man

A common evolutionary view of man

The Christian view is that:

  • Humans are not cosmic accidents but are individually created by God to love and serve Him
  • Christ's death on the cross for every person is the ultimate expression of Christianity's high view of the person
  • But the Fall has left the human character spoilt by sin and in need of training
  • Man is relational: man to man, man to God, and God to man
  • Non-Christian worldviews always give a deficient or malign analysis of humanity

See a reasoned discussion on these points at What is Man?

The Bible is God's word to man. It reveals the real purpose of life and tells us how we can get right with God, our Creator. It is full of promises to those who trust in Him, it gives wisdom in life's decisions, hope for the future and much more. Take a look sometime!
